Transcript/Academic Record requirements

U.S. colleges and universities

Applicants must submit official transcripts from any college or university where they have earned or will be earning a degree. If the graduate program requires prerequisite coursework, applicants must ensure that any transcripts which include those prerequisites are submitted, regardless of whether a degree was earned at that school. Applicants are also encouraged to submit transcripts for any other coursework relevant to the graduate program to which they are applying. The admission committee reserves the right to request official transcripts from colleges or universities where an applicant attended but did not complete a degree. Please note that not submitting all transcripts where courses have been completed could impact course waivers if applicable.

We strongly recommend that all applicants have their schools send us official electronic transcripts if possible. If your school uses an automated transcript request service, please select "Loyola University Maryland" as the receiving institution, and be sure to select "Graduate" or "Graduate Admission" as the receiving office. If your school does not use an automated transcript request service but will send an official transcript via email from their Registrar/Records office, have the transcripts sent to graduate@loyola.edu. Electronic transcripts sent to us by the applicant as email attachments are not considered official.

If your school is unable to provide electronic transcripts of any kind, your official transcript must be sent to us by mail in an envelope sealed by the school. Our mailing address can be found on the Graduate Admission webpage. Please note that it will take additional time for us to receive and process official transcripts sent to us by mail.

International Academic Records

山ּ requires that all international (non-U.S.) academic records be evaluated by an academic record evaluation service and submitted to the Office of Graduate Admission and Financial Aid for review. The evaluation must be sent to our office directly and must be from one of the following evaluation services:

  • - A Course-by-Course level evaluation is required.
  • - A Detail Report is required.
  • - A Course Analysis Evaluation is required.
  • - A Course-by-Course evaluation is required (either the WES Basic or the WES ICAP* are acceptable).

In addition to the international evaluation, applicants must also send scanned copies of all of their original international academic records (including diplomas, degree documents, and university verifications, etc.) to graduate@loyola.edu. Each college/university record must be scanned as a single PDF document - do not send separate attachments for each page. Be sure to include "International Academic Records" in the subject line of the email.

English Language Examination Requirements

Applicants are required to submit official English language examination scores unless they have earned or will be earning a bachelor's (or higher) degree from either:

  • A U.S. college or university*, or
  • A foreign college or university where English is the sole language of instruction listed in the school's profile in the .**

*Applicants who attended a college or university in Puerto Rico are still required to take the exam.

**If English is not the sole language of instruction listed, or if no language of instruction is listed, or if your college/university is not included in WHED, you will be required to submit English language examination scores.
